NYC Parks with the Best Skyline Views

NYC Parks with the Best Skyline Views

The Manhattan skyline is the most famous in the world. Here is where to see it from ground level — no observation deck ticket needed.

1. Gantry Plaza State Park (Long Island City, Queens)

THE best skyline view in NYC. The full Midtown skyline reflected in the East River. The Pepsi-Cola sign, restored gantries, and benches facing west for sunset. Take the 7 train to Vernon-Jackson.

2. Brooklyn Bridge Park (DUMBO)

Lower Manhattan skyline with Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge framing the view. Multiple piers with different angles. Pier 1 has the best panoramic view.

3. Governors Island (Harbor)

The Hills on the south end give you 360-degree views — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Statue of Liberty, and the harbor. Free ferry on weekends before noon (summer only).

4. Transmitter Park (Greenpoint, Brooklyn)

Small, quiet, and locals-only feel. Unobstructed Midtown skyline view from the north end of the Brooklyn waterfront. Perfect sunset spot with almost no tourists.

5. Liberty State Park (Jersey City, NJ)

Technically New Jersey but the view is unbeatable — the full Lower Manhattan skyline with the Statue of Liberty in the foreground. Take the PATH train to Exchange Place.

6. East River Park Amphitheater (Lower East Side)

Williamsburg Bridge framing the Brooklyn skyline. Less famous but photogenic, especially at blue hour.

7. Socrates Sculpture Park (Astoria, Queens)

Art sculptures with Manhattan skyline backdrop. Free, uncrowded, and the sunset light hits the buildings perfectly from this angle.

Best Times for Skyline Photos

  • Sunrise: Buildings glow gold, no crowds
  • Sunset: Classic golden hour, most popular
  • Blue hour: 20-30 min after sunset — city lights on, sky still blue. Best for photography.
  • Night: Full city lights, reflections on water
